Tar Heel State visit

We recently took a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina to see our awesome friends, Greg, Nicolle and Clara Sherwood. It was the furthest east any of us have visited and Hendrix's first trip to any ocean, and also then all of our 1st trips to the Atlantic.

Hendrix was fascinated by the planes, although he kept pointing them out and doing the sign for fish, so he was a little confused.

The Sherwood's knew all the best places to try some real southern cookin'. They treated us to Bojangles for breakfast one day, homemade southern biscuits, so greasy the bag was see-through. This was Carter Brothers BBQ.We munched on shredded pork with hot BBQ sauce, fried okra and turnip greens with vinegar. Not only did we learn what REAL BBQ is, but we were also enlightened to the fact that it's always a good time with Cheerwine. Hendrix enjoyed his hushpuppies and homemade yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Yummy!
We spent the first few days at the beach. Our hotel view was great and Hendrix loved it!

This is baby Clara with her mom and dad.

Hendrix adored Clara. He would hold
out his finger for her to grab hold of and continued to bring her baby toys every time he found one.

Daddy and Hendrix just checking out the local scene.

Mike and Greg tried to bury him, but he wasn't havin' it, until Mike dug a hole, let him climb in himself and bury himself, he was fine. He's so independent.

Watching the waves come in.

We spent the rest of our vacation just hanging out. We visited a historical park, named after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the revolutionary war. Then we took a walk around the neighborhood, visited the Raleigh Temple and mostly chatted, chilled and slept. It was great not to have to be anywhere.

Hendrix loved the Sherwood's backyard. They had lots of room for him to run, a wooden swing, fireflies at night and the neighbors dogs next door kept most of his attention. They would bring him balls through the fence that he would throw back for them to fetch. He had a blast.

BUT AT LAST IT WAS TIME FOR US TO RETURN HOME

We had a layover in Tennessee, which was supposed to be just under an hour, but the weather was bad and we spent 3 hours into the wee morning sleepy-time in the airport.

Hendrix met a deaf couple from Phoenix and signed with them.
They were so impressed with this mad skills, that they informed Leah of a great website to check out local deaf events to keep her signing skills fresh.

Here's Mike and Hendrix trying to stayed entertained. We mostly just ran around the airport playing stop and go games. Our main goal was to wear him out.

I GUESS IT WORKED...

This was right before we boarded the plane in Tennessee. Hendrix slept the entire 4 hours home.

YES SIR, WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR "SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY", SHERWOODS. WE HAD A GREAT TIME.

Oh my goodness... I didn't know the Sherwoods had a baby girl! Wow... they seem like they are doing well. How fun that you guys had the chance to visit them and have a good time there. Looks like you guys had some good southern cookin'! Hendrix is growing up too quickly. Jack and him would be good buds.
