This past weekend we went to Payson w/couple-friends and camped Friday night to Saturday, then went hiking Saturday morning. The Jeep Cherokee we took had radiator problems and overheated a couple times on the way up, with the final overheating emergency happening just as we got past Rye, AZ and were only like 4 miles f/Payson.
Once we filled up the radiator with water and waited a bit, we made it in just fine. Once in town we got some advice and repair tools, including the some good old "Bars Leak" radiator leak fixer stuff. It worked great b/c we made it to camp, then to Pine where we did a hike leading some YW at Girls Camp and back home. The only real lame thing about the trip (other than the unforeseeable car trouble) was that we couldn't have a fire b/c of the fire hazard being so high right now. We still had hot dogs and s'mores for dinner, just cooked over an open propane stove. Hendrix was with us and he slept great and was a pretty good travel companion too. It's really good to have a kid that has learned (through carefully taught lessons) to not just go the the crazy cry as a first reaction or doesn't sleep well/play in the outdoors, etc. He really liked the hike too, in his back pack hiker that Mike brought, and even fell asleep a bit on the way back out of the hike. Anyway, it's always good to get out and visit mother nature now and again.
