Our Sick Little Boy

Saturday, Sept. 17th, Mike and I noticed Hendrix looked alittle yellow, we thought it was werid, but by Monday morning when it hadn't gone away we took him into the doctor's office. The doctor ordered some blood tests and sent us home around 4pm, at 10:30pm we got a call from our Pediatrician (who we love, Dr. Ciminello), telling us that Hendrix's enzymes levels which should be in the 100's, were almost 5,000. PT & PTT tests showed his "PT and PTT levels "were elevated and basically his liver was not functioning properly and we needed to get him into the hospital immediately. The whole thing was a little scary. The next morning we ran more blood tests and did an ultrasound, which showed nothing abnormal. By day four they had tested Hendrix for every type of Hepatitis as well as CMV and mono, all of which came up negative. They finally let us go home and would only draw blood every couple of days. Because the jaundice was his only symptom, it was extremely difficult to determine the cause and to get a clear diagnosis.

Becasue his immune system was low, he wasn't allowed to leave the house in fear he would get sick, so he and I hung out for the next two weeks at home. He was lovin' it, I was getting a little stir crazy. Luckily, we had doctor's appointments and we could still go to Grandma's. A month later, we still don't have a clue what it was that made his liver malfunction, but his levels are normal and he is as active as ever.

Here's Hendrix's little IV, he had to have blood tests every 24 hours, it was terrible. His little arms were so swollen and brusied by day four, they had to draw blood from his feet.

WE TRIED TO KEEP BUSY, THE NURSES GAVE HENDRIX AN AWESOME SPORTS BALL BLANKET AND PUZZLES TO PLAY WITH. WE WATCHED THE LION KING MOVIE 3 TIMES A DAY.

This is what Hendrix did when I shouted"Hooray, we're going home." He was very excited as well.
